Red is an intense color. So usually it is balanced by a neutral like pure white. Red and white interiors are quite popular. Red is also often used in accents. Though often used in living rooms red color schemes can also be seen in bedrooms and kitchens. If bright red is too active a color it can be replaced with coral red, pinkish red, or other muted red hue.

Red & Other Colors

Since red is a very energetic color it is often used in furniture and decorations but it can also be used in walls or one feature wall. Red makes great combinations with white, black, gray, orange, yellow, and beige. Red can be mixed with any of these colors in a wallpaper pattern, rugs, and furniture.

Red Accents

Red can make bold accents. The white or light-colored room makes the red especially stand out. The contrast is usually achieved by using red furniture against the white or cream walls. Gray or black can make a color scheme more interesting, but the interior can also benefit from orange, coral red, azure and purple.

Red walls can be overwhelming especially for smaller space. So red is often used in a feature wall or two walls in the room rather than all the walls. Red can also be mixed with other hues in a wallpaper pattern from floral to stripes to dilute the activeness of red with a more neutral tone.
